SEACOM OUTAGE AFFECTING INTERNATIONAL ADSL

There is an outage on the SEACOM cable which is affecting connectivity to international websites and services for our ADSL clients.

What is the problem?

A repeater on the SEACOM cable between Mumbai and Mombasa has failed leading to international downtime. Services such as Instant Messenger and websites hosted overseas (such as Google and Facebook) have been affected.

Fortunately local connection and speeds have not been affected.

How long is this outage going to last?

Seacom has initiated emergency repair procedures to replace the failed equipment. Whilst the replacement and repair itself may only take a few hours they have indicated that the entire process may last a minimum of 6-8 days depending on external factors such as travel time of the ship, time to locate the cable and weather conditions.
